How To Avoid Your Kid Getting Diabetes?

Childhood diabetes is a very rare disorder that hits a very small amount of children in this world. One of the possible ways a child may have diabetes is if he or she has a relative that already has the disease.

Diabetes in children happens when there is an abnormality in the body wherein the pancreas no longer produces the insulin that the body needs or when the body is resistant to the insulin already. These are two types of diabetes and the latter one is more dangerous.

type 1 diabetesThe second type is also more rare because the number of children affected by the second type of diabetes is much less. But this does not mean that once you have type one diabetes (juvenile diabetes), it won’t get worse because the first type of diabetes can evolve to a type 2 diabetes and the body resists the insulin.

The first type of diabetes will require parents and the child to know how to inject themselves with insulin shots. This will replace the insulin that is supposed to be produced by the pancreas. The insulin injected to the body will then be taken to the cells so that the carbohydrates and glucose will be taken in by the body for energy. This can really takes a toll on children with diabetes.

Signs and symptoms for a type one diabetes includes:

- increased thirst and urination

- increased hunger

- weight loss and fatigue.

The increased thirst and urination is caused by the build up of glucose in the body which causes fluids to be pulled from the bloodstream which will lead to frequent urination and increased thirst. Hunger is also caused by the body’s inability to process sugar and into the cells. This will cause the muscles and organs to be weaker because the body cannot fuel the muscles and organs anymore because if does not have insulin to process sugar. Fatigue is also caused by the body’s lack of sugar. We all see how energetic children are after they eat too much sweets but if the body cannot process all these sugar, it will just be excreted from the body without using the sugar as energy.

To avoid childhood diabetes:

make sure that you let your child play regularly. The most common mistakes that parents make is that they wish to protect their child and they do not let him or her go outside to run around and play. Staying home and being a couch potato, eating snacks, can cause diabetes symptoms in children. A healthy lifestyle early on will allow the body to process the stored energy which will prevent childhood diabetes from happening.

Eating healthy can also help prevent diabetes. Overloading your body with sugar is one cause of diabetes and doing the opposite of eating sweets by eating more nutritious food like vegetables will help prevent diabetes in children. You will have to learn to cook the vegetables better though so that it becomes more appealing to the children. Most children will not eat when they see vegetables on the table but you will have to find a way to make them eat it because it is good for them. Limiting the amount of your child’s sugar intake will also help prevent diabetes effectively
